Chuck Palahniuk könyvei a rukkolán

Chuck Palahniuk - Non-Fiction
Comprises of the pieces that aim to prove just how different, in ways both highly entertaining and deeply unsettling. This work contains essays or vignettes that offer a facet of existence as lived in or observed by one of America's original literary talents.

Chuck Palahniuk - Survivor
Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the Creedish Death Cult, has commandeered a Boeing 747, emptied of passengers, in order to tell his story to the plane's black box before it crashes. Brought up by the repressive cult and, like all Creedish younger sons, hired out as a domestic servant, Tender finds himself suddenly famous when his fellow cult members all commit suicide. As media messiah he ascends to the very top of the freak-show heap before finally and apocaliptically spiralling out of control.

Chuck Palahniuk - Tell-All
"Tell-All" is many things: a Sunset Boulevard-inflected homage to Old Hollywood when grand dames like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford ruled the roost. This is: a Douglas Sirk-inspired melodrama full of big gestures and muted psychic torment; a veritable Tourette's Syndrome of rat-tat-tat name-dropping, from the A-list to the Z-list; and, a merciless send-up of of Lillian Hellman's habit of butchering the truth that will have Mary McCarthy cheering from the beyond. Our narrator is Hazie Coogan, who for decades has tended to the outsized needs of Katherine 'Miss Kathie' Kenton, a star of the wattage of Elizabeth Taylor and the emotional torments of Judy Garland. The survivor of multiple marriages, career comebacks and cosmetic surgeries, Miss Kathie lives the way legends should. But danger lurks when gentleman caller Webster Carlton Westward III arrives and worms his way into Miss Kathie's heart and boudoir. Hazie discovers that this bounder has already written his celebrity tell-all memoir and that it foretells her death in a forthcoming Lillian Hellman-penned World War II musical extravaganza Unconditional Surrender, in which Miss Kathie portrays Lily defeating Japanese forces from Pearl Harbor to Nagasaki. As the body count mounts, Hazie must execute a plan to save Katherine Kenton for her fans - and for posterity. A dark reimagining of All About Eve and an hilarious assault on celebrity, "Tell-All" is vintage Palahniuk.

Chuck Palahniuk - Damned
Adolescent is hell? You have no idea... Welcome to the Inferno by way of the Breakfeast Club, from the mind of American fiction's most brilliant troublemaker. “Are you there, Satan? It’s me, Madison,” declares the whip-tongued thirteen-year-old narrator of Damned, Chuck Palahniuk’s subversive new work of fiction. The daughter of a narcissistic film star and a billionaire, Madison is abandoned at her Swiss boarding school over Christmas, while her parents are off touting their new projects and adopting more orphans. She dies over the holiday of a marijuana overdose—and the next thing she knows, she’s in Hell. Madison shares her cell with a motley crew of young sinners that is almost too good to be true: a cheerleader, a jock, a nerd, and a punk rocker, united by fate to form the six-feet-under version of everyone’s favorite detention movie. Madison and her pals trek across the Dandruff Desert and climb the treacherous Mountain of Toenail Clippings to confront Satan in his citadel. All the popcorn balls and wax lips that serve as the currency of Hell won’t buy them off. This is the afterlife as only Chuck Palahniuk could imagine it: a twisted inferno where The English Patient plays on endless repeat, roaming demons devour sinners limb by limb, and the damned interrupt your dinner from their sweltering call center to hard-sell you Hell. He makes eternal torment, well, simply divine.

Chuck Palahniuk - Fight Club
Every weekend, in basements and parking lots across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded for as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Fight Club is the invention of Tyler Durden, projectionist, waiter and dark, anarchic genius. And it's only the beginning of his plans for revenge on a world where cancer support groups have the corner on human warmth.

Chuck Palahniuk - Snuff
From the master of literary mayhem and provocation, this is a full-frontal Triple-X novel that goes where no work of fiction has gone before. 'Six hundred dudes. One porn queen. A world record for the ages. A must-have movie for every discerning collector of things erotic'. 'Didn't one of us on purpose set out to make a snuff movie?' - Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera with six hundred men, "Snuff" unfolds from the perspectives of Mr 72, Mr 137 and Mr 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room. This wild, lethally funny and thoroughly researched novel brings the huge yet underacknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction at last. Who else but Chuck Palahniuk would dare do such a thing? Who else could do it so well, so unflinchingly and with such an incendiary (you might say) climax?

Chuck Palahniuk - Cigányút
A szerző negyedik regénye újabb lázálomszerű mélyrepülés az amerikai pszichébe, a Harcosok klubja anarchisztikus lázadója helyett azonban az oldalakon ezúttal egy passzív-agresszív szenvedélybeteg szenvedéstörténete pereg. Victor Mancini szexmániások csoportterápiáin táplálja nemi éhségét. Reménytelen szerelem hevíti Alzheimer-kóros édesanyja csinos kezelőorvosa iránt, miközben estéről estére megöli magát, hogy fedezni tudja a kórházi költségeket: éttermi vacsorák alatt szándékosan félrenyeli ételét, hogy a megmentésére sietők a későbbiekben elkötelezett pártfogókként támogassák.

Chuck Palahniuk - Altató
Chuck Palahniuk ezúttal az információs kor poklába kalauzolja olvasóit. A horror és a fantasy elemeit vegyítő groteszk road-regény minden ízében igazi Palahniuk-mű: sokkoló, megbotránkoztató, elgondolkodtató. Carl Streator újságíró egy nap különös megbízást kap szerkesztőjétől: a hirtelen bölcsőhalálról kell cikksorozatot írnia. Alighogy nekilát e nem kifejezetten hálás feladatnak, különös felfedezést tesz: az áldozatok mindegyikének ugyanabból a könyvből, ugyanazt a verset – egy afrikai törzsi mondókát – olvasták fel a haláluk előtti este. Carl fejében hamarosan összeáll a kép, és kezdetét veszi a hajtóvadászat a mondókás könyv fellelhető példányai és a Varázskönyv után, amelyben a gyilkos mondóka eredetije szerepel. A keresésben „segítségére” lesz Helen Hoover Boyle ingatlanügynök – akinek múltja és rózsaszín hajkoronája súlyos titkokat rejt –, Helen titkárnője, Mona Sabbat, a fiatal neohippi boszorkány, valamint Mona megszállott pasija, Osztriga, a Harcosok klubja Tyler Durdenjének ikertestvére, aki akár emberek milliárdjait is könnyű szívvel feláldozná, ha ezzel „megmenthetné” bolygónkat. A díszes társaság egyre hajmeresztőbb kalandokba keveredik, ahogy keresztül-kasul száguldozik Amerikán. Vajon sikerül-e megmenteniük a világot? Ismerősnek tűnik a hely?

Chuck Palahniuk - Lullaby
Carl Streator is a reporter investigating Sudden Infant Death Syndrome for a soft-news feature. After responding to several calls with paramedics, he notices that all the dead children were read the same poem from the same library book the night before they died. It's a 'culling song' - an ancient African spell for euthanising sick or old people. Researching it, he meets a woman who killed her own child with it accidentally. He himself accidentally killed his own wife and child with the same poem twenty years earlier. Together, the man and the woman find and destroy all copies of this book, and try not to kill every rude sonofabitch that gets in their way. Lullaby is a comedy/drama/tragedy. In that order. It may also be Chuck Palahniuk's best book yet.

Chuck Palahniuk - Stranger Than Fiction
Chuck Palahniuk' s world has always been, well, different from yours and mine. In his first collection of nonfiction, Chuck Palahniuk brings us into this world, and gives us a glimpse of what inspires his fiction. At the Rock Creek Lodge Testicle Festival in Missoula, Montana, average people perform public sex acts on an outdoor stage. In a mansion once occupied by The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Manson reads his own Tarot cards and talks sweetly to his beautiful actress girlfriend. Across the country, men build their own full-size castles and rocketships that will send them into space. Palahniuk himself experiments with steroids, works on an assembly line by day and as a hospice volunteer by night, and experiences the brutal murder of his father by a white supremacist. With this new direction, Chuck Palahniuk has proven he can do anything.
