Gegen Ende des ersten Aktes erfahren die beiden, dass Godot, mit dem sie eine Verabredung haben, nicht kommen kann, aber Godot lässt durch einen Jungen ausrichten, dass er bestimmt am folgenden Tag erscheinen wird. Im zweiten Akt geschieht genau das gleiche, der gleiche Junge bringt ihnen die gleichlautende Nachricht: Godot wird erst am folgenden Tag erscheinen. Einzig die Abfolge der Geschehnisse und die Dialoge unterscheiden sich. Wiederholt - unter anderen Umständen - treffen die beiden Landstreicher auf ein zweites Personenpaar, Pozzo und Lucky, Herr und Diener. In jedem Akt versuchen sich Wladimir und Estragon in der Hoffnungslosigkeit des unaufhörlichen Wartens umzubringen und scheitern jedesmal daran. (Dreisprachige Ausgabe.)
