Annie Leibovitz - A ​Photographer's Life
“I ​don’t have two lives,” Annie Leibovitz writes in the Introduction to this collection of her work from 1990 to 2005. “This is one life, and the personal pictures and the assignment work are all part of it.” Portraits of well-known figures–Johnny Cash, Nicole Kidman, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Keith Richards, Michael Jordan, Joan Didion, R2-D2, Patti Smith, Nelson Mandela, Jack Nicholson, and William Burroughs–appear alongside pictures of Leibovitz’s family and friends, reportage from the siege of Sarajevo in the early Nineties, and landscapes. Luxusvillák, ​elegáns bérházak üvegcsőben mozgó liftekkel, egy erőmű őskori űrhajót idéző irányítóterme, divatos üzletbelsők, hangosfilmeket játszó áramvonalas mozik - mindezeket röviddel elkészülésük után lefényképezték a "Tér és Forma" folyóirat számára. Magyarországon első sorban ez a kiadvány terjesztette a modern mozgalom eszméit 1928 és 1948 között, amikor magyar építészek olyan műveket alkottak, amelyek a nemzetközi modernizmus legjobbjai közé tartoznak. Az ezekről készült fényképek ma nagy értékű források, amelyek nemcsak dokumentálják az épületeket, hanem azt is bizonyítják, hogy az építészeti fotó önmagában is lehet műalkotás. A könyvbe választott negatívok és archív nagyítások nagy része a Magyar Építészeti Múzeumban és a Kulturális Örökségvédelmi Hivatal Fényképtárában található. Csengel-Plank Ibolya fotótörténész, Hajdú Virág és Ritoók Pál építészettörténész tanulmányai azt vizsgálják, hogyan hatott a modern mozgalom a magyar építészekre és hogyan fényképezték épületeiket. A könyv fő része 63 épületet és belsőépítészeti alkotást mutat be 217 remek fotóval, amelyekhez rövid épületleírás és a képekre vonatkozó magyarázat társul. Ezt néhány jelentős építész és fotográfus portréja és az 1930-as évek Budapestjét ábrázoló városképek követik. A magyar származású építész és formatervező Breuer Marcel, Pierre Vago, Moholy-Nagy, vagy a fényképész André Kertész, Brassai és Lucien Hervé munkássága külföldön is jól ismert. Sokkal kevesebben hallották hazai kortársaik, az építész Molnár Farkas, Borbíró (Bierbauer) Virgil, Kozma Lajos vagy a fényképész Seidner Zoltán, Kozelka Tivadar és Bánó Ernő nevét. Richard Avedon - Woman ​in the Mirror
Among ​the significant projects of the last year of his life, Richard Avedon (1923-2004) completed a book of his photographs of women. A ​kiállítás gerincét eddig még soha be nem mutatott fotók alkotják. Zsigmond Vilmos az ötvenes évek elején, még Magyarországon kezdett el érdeklődni komolyabban a fotóművészet iránt. Nagy hatást tett rá Dulovits Jenő Művészi fényképezés című, több nyelven is kiadott műve. Ennek segítségével autodidakta módon megtanulta a kompozíciós elveket, a fénykezelés jelentőségét, a film nyersanyagok sajátosságait. Az előhívást szintén maga végezte, így lehetősége volt megtanulni a fotózás laborálási eljárásait is. Ezek a tanulságok aztán operatőri munkájában tovább értek, fejlődtek, és alkalmazásukkal jött létre e nagyszerű filmes életmű, melynek indulása egybefonódik az amerikai film meghatározó korszakával, az Új Hollywood-nak nevezett filmtörténeti periódussal. A mintegy 150 darabot számláló fotóanyag az 1950-es években indul, és napjainkig bezárólag több csoportban mutatja be Zsigmond Vilmos alkotói gondolkodásmódjának fő jellegzetességeit. A kiállítás kiegészül továbbá a filmes életmű darabjaival is, hogy láthatóvá váljanak a fotográfiai alkotások és az operatőri tevékenység szoros összefüggései, segítve egymás értelmezését.

'There ​is a slightly rotten shed in the middle distance. The sky unfurls in motorway diagrams of receding cumulus, wisping at the edges. The country has been entirely cleared of human beings, and almost nothing has happened in it since about 1760. Nothing blurs, and an electric neon-lit clarity hovers over the entire scene. Camera - Charlie Waite (left) was an actor for ten years before taking up photography professionally. He first worked for the Salisbury Playhouse as an assistans stage manager, later acting in various roles on the repertory theatre circuit. His initial interest in the camera grew through photographing stage productions and fellow actors. But he became increasingly absorbed in the landscape, which has become his speciality and his passion. He is married to the actress Jessica Benton. They live in London with their daughter Ella. Adam Nicolson (right) read English at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He contributes regularly to The Spectator, The New York Times and other national journals. He has written two very popular books about walking, both illustrated by Charlie Waite: The National Trust Book of Long Walks and Long Walks in France. He lives in Leicestershire (when not away on his travels), and is married with a son.

Vivian Maier - Street ​Photographer
VIVIAN ​MAIER: STREET PHOTOGRAPHER A good street photographer must be possessed of many talents: an eye for detail, light, and composition; impeccable timing; a populist or humanitarian outlook; and a tireless ability to constantly shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot and never miss a moment. It is hard enough to find these qualities in trained photographers with the benefit of schooling and mentors and a community of fellow artists and aficionados supporting and rewarding their efforts. It is incredibly rare to find it in someone with no formal training and no network of peers. Yet Vivian Maier is all of these things, a professional nanny, who from the 1950s until the 1990s took over 100,000 photographs worldwide— from France to New York City to Chicago and dozens of other countries—and yet showed the results to no one. The photos are amazing both for the breadth of the work and for the high quality of the humorous, moving, beautiful, and raw images of all facets of city life in America’s post-war golden age. A ​költőként induló Hajas Tibor a magyar neoavantgárd képzőművészet egyik legkiemelkedőbb és legszélsőségesebb alakja volt. Műveit a performansz rítus-központú szemlélete hatotta át – önmagát, illetve önmaga megsemmisítését fotóz(tat)ta. Életműve: az objektek, írások, fénymásolatok műfajukból adódóan nehezen dokumentálhatók, de fotóművész munkatársai segítségével Hajas akcióinak és performanszainak művészi dokumentálására is sor kerülhetett. A kiállításhoz kapcsolódóan DVD melléklettel kiegészített katalógust jelentetett meg a Ludwig Múzeum. Az 51 oldalas, színes, puhafedeles, magyar és angol nyelvű katalógust a kiállítás kurátorának, Baksa-Soós Veronikának előszava vezeti be. A Kényszerleszállás című esszé elhelyezi Hajas Tibort a korabeli művészetben, s párhuzamot von a művész magányos akciói és a bécsi akcionizmus képviselőinek munkássága között. A katalógusban olvasható Dékei Kriszta Hajas Tibor (1946–1980) szövegei című tanulmánya, amit a művész részletes életrajza és bibliográfiája követ.

Ő a Friedmann, akitől tanulni lehet mesterséget, emberséget, helytállást, egyszóval: hivatást; és akinek a szavára figyelnek, mert dicsérő szava rangot jelent. A több mint öt évtized alatt fölhalmozódott életmű sűrű dzsungel. Tájékozódni, utat vágni benne, választani belőle, amire albumunk vállalkozott, a lehetetlennel egyenlő. Ezzel a tudattal válogattuk az első három évtized termésének a javát, a jók közül is a legjobbakat; azokat a műveket, melyek túlélve a születésük pillanatát, ma is érvényesek.
