Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times—the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.
It was an unlikely quest from the start. With a team composed of the sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers, the University of Washington’s eight-oar crew team was never expected to defeat the elite teams of the East Coast and Great Britain, yet they did, going on to shock the world by defeating the German team rowing for Adolf Hitler. The emotional heart of the tale lies with Joe Rantz, a teenager without family or prospects, who rows not only to regain his shattered self-regard but also to find a real place for himself in the world. Drawing on the boys’ own journals and vivid memories of a once-in-a-lifetime shared dream, Brown has created an unforgettable portrait of an era, a celebration of a remarkable achievement, and a chronicle of one extraordinary young man’s personal quest.

Katy Evans - Remy (angol)
Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.
Through it all, there's been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he's ever had to fight for.
Katy Evans - Rogue (angol)
Greyson King…
My boyfriend. My friend. My protector. He’s the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and the reason I fall asleep limp, worn out, and aching for his warm arms around me. When we make love, he says my name like it means something. Like I mean something.
He
Lied.
His name is Greyson King, but his alias is Zero.
There’s zero trace of him, he has zero past, and now I know that with him, I will have zero future.
He may leave no trace of him anywhere, but his imprint is in me, in my very soul—and I hate that a mere look at him commands the beat of my heart. The temperature of my body.
I’ve looked for love my entire life. I’ve waited for the butterflies, the rainbows…
Instead I’m in a free fall of emotions and there’s no one to catch me but the one man I should be running away from. The one man I thought was my prince charming.
Except this prince charming went rogue.
Greyson will stop at nothing to make me be with him. He'll let no one stand in our way, will allow no one to threaten me, and maybe this is what scares me most of all...
What will my rogue do to keep me?

Scott Jurek - Steve Friedman - Eat and Run
For nearly two decades, Scott Jurek has been a dominant force—and darling—in the grueling and growing sport of ultrarunning. In 1999, as a complete unknown, he took the lead of the Western States Endurance Run, a 100-mile traverse over the old Gold Rush trails of the California Sierra Nevada. He won that race seven years in a row, setting a course record along the way. Twice he won the Badwater Ultramarathon, a 135-mile “jaunt” through Death Valley. Recently he set an American record of 165.7 miles in 24 hours—6 1/2 marathons in one day. And he was one of the elite runners who traveled to Mexico to run with the Tarahumara Indians, as profiled in the bestseller Born to Run. His accomplishments are nothing short of extraordinary, but that he has achieved all of this on a plant-based diet makes his story all the more so.
In Eat and Run, Scott Jurek opens up about his life and career—as an elite athlete and a vegan—and inspires runners at every level. From his Midwestern childhood hunting, fishing, and cooking for his meat-and-potatoes family, to his early beginnings in running (he hated it), to his slow transition to ultrarunning and veganism, to his world-spanning, record-breaking races, Scott’s story shows the power of an iron will and blows apart all the stereotypes of what athletes should eat to fuel optimal performance. Chock-full of incredible, on-the-brink stories of endurance and competition, fascinating science, and accessible practical advice—including his own favorite plant-based recipes—Eat and Run will motivate everyone to “go the distance,” whether that means getting out for that first run, expanding your food horizons, or simply exploring the limits of your own potential

Jennifer E. Smith - The Comeback Season
The last place Ryan Walsh should be this afternoon is on a train heading to Wrigley Field. She should be in class, enduring yet another miserable day of her first year of high school. But for once, Ryan isn't thinking about what she should be doing. She's not worried about her lack of friends, or her suffering math grade, or how it's been five whole years since the last time she was really and truly happy. Because she's finally returning to the place that her father loved, where the two of them spent so many afternoons cheering on their team. And on this -- the fifth anniversary of his death -- it feels like there's nowhere else in the world she should be.
Ryan is once again filled with hope as she makes her way to the game. Good luck is often hard to come by at a place like Wrigley Field, but it's on this day that she meets Nick, the new kid from her school, who seems to love the Cubs nearly as much as she does. But Nick carries with him a secret that makes Ryan wonder if anyone can ever really escape their past, or believe in the promise of those reassuring words: "Wait till next year." Is it too much for Ryan to hope that this year, this season, might be her comeback season?
Andrew Dettre - Silver Jubilee of St. George-Budapest (1957-1982)
Where Thanks Are Due...
By Alex Pongrass, President of St. George-Budapest
On this magnificent occasion, our 25th birthday, we should pay generous tribute to all those people who have helped to make this club into what it is today.
Even among those, one should single out the handful who have given many years of excellent service, often dacrificing pesonal ambitions, to develop our club. It"s been said before but it doesn't make it less true: the organisation within a club depends on the work of many people. Even the biggest wheel grinds to a halt without the numerous smaller cogs.
If I can single out just two achievements from the annaés of our 25 years, I consider it an easy task.
The second great achievement is the smooth friendly and very active co-operation between the juniors and seniors who come under the club's umbrella. This, perhaps more than any other single factor, assures the club's future in the years to come.
Still, this future has to be secured and we do need more and more young people, more fresh blood, to join us in the administration of this club. A new generation of leaders and co-workers will have to be found, groomed and encouraged to take the club towards its next silver jubilee, in 2007.
Only then can we sit back and relax a bit, in the happy knowledge that the sacrifices of the founders and pioneers have not been in vain.
Andrew Dettre - The First 15 Years of St. George-Budapest (1957-1972)
There is more to come
by Alex Pongrass, president of St. George-Budapest Soccer Club Ltd.
Seven years have passed since the appearance of " The Story of St. George-Budapest Soccer Club", seven eventful, exciting, sometimes exhilirating years. In this period the club's magnificent home, "Soccer House" was completed and then, more recently, extended, providing the sort of sound economic background the club had never enjoyed before.
Another revolutionary change came about in the 1969-70 seasons when the Club engaged its first full-time manager-coach in Frank Arok. Only some outside factors, including incredible bad luck, have so far prevented this major, progressive move from bearing rich fruit.
However, the intervening years have not been quite barren: in the 1969, 1970 and 1971 seasons our senior team finished runners-up in the Sydney premiership and in 1967 and again in 1971, won the long coveted Grand Final. The club broke fresh ground in 1971 by becoming the first Australian soccer team of any kind to be invited to Japan for a series of matches; winning the prestigeous Tokyo International Tournament, sponsored by the Asahi newspaper group, was a welcome bonus.
Those last few years have also seen the physical and final settling of our Club in the vast St. George district; Hurstville Oval has now become our home ground and at Carss Park the club has a splendidly developed training venue. This irrevocable orientation towards the district has, in turn, helped the senior club's aim to integrate local talent into the fold.
Fifteen hard though fascinating years are now behind us and, hopefully, many decades lie ahead. The Club's Directors are fully aware of the many changing trends in sport, sociel activities and life patterns; they are anxious to make sure that the Club as well as "Soccer House" keep fulfilling their roles in this changing world.
In this work of theirs, they need the encouragement and support of not only all the Club's membership but also of those who regard sport and the integration of migrants close to their hearts.

Agárdy Ferenc - Hargitay Béla - Hargitay István - Kun Endre - Márffy Attila - Az első huszonöt év - The First Twenty Five Years 1957-1982 Melbourne H.S.C. alapításának 25 éves évfordulója
Szerkesztőbizottságunk a Magyar Élet 25 évkönyvét lapozta át (kb. 20 ezer oldal), mellette 3000 fénykép közül válogattunk. Igyekeztünk kapcsolatot teremteni mindenkivel, aki valaha is közreműködött a Melbourne Hungária felvirágoztatásáért.
