R. Raj - N. D. Morpeth - Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Management
Religion and spirituality are common motivations for travel, with many major tourist destinations having developed largely as a result of their connections to sacred people, places and events. Describing practical applications, models and case studies, this book provides an insight into the management of religious tourism, covering both ancient sacred sites and emerging destinations. It fully explored the pressures on sacred spaces to become commercialized and festivalized areas, while still maintaining their religious and spiritual integrity.
Michael Stausberg - Religion and Tourism
This book explores the dynamic interaction between religion and tourism in the modern world. It considers questions such as: do travellers leave their religion at home when they are touring – and what happens if not? what are the relationships between tourism and pilgrimage? what happens to religious performances, places and festivals that function as tourism attractions? Other chapters examine religious theme parks, wellness and spa tourism, the roles played by tourist guides, guidebooks and religious souvenirs, and the role of tourism as a major arena of religious encounters in the contemporary world. Surveying the growing body of work in the field, Michael Stausberg argues that tourism should be a major focus of research within religious studies.

Stephen Williams - Tourism Geography
Tourism is an intensely geographic phenomenon. It stimulates large-scale, global movement of people and forges distinctive relationships between people and the places they visit. It shapes processes of physical development and resource exploitation, whilst the presence of visitors exerts a range of economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts that often have important implications for local geographies. This second edition of Tourism Geography develops a critical understanding of how different geographies of tourism are created and maintained. Drawing on both historical and contemporary perspectives, the discussion – which is in three main parts – connects tourism to key geographical concepts relating to globalization, mobility, new geographies of production and consumption, and post-industrial change. Part one examines how spatial patterns of tourism are formed and evolve through time. Part two offers an extended discussion of how tourism relates to places that are toured, examining physical and economic development, socio-cultural and environmental relations and the role of tourism planning. Part three develops a range of new material for this second edition that considers important contemporary influences upon tourism geographies, including place promotion, new forms of urban tourism, heritage, identity and embodied forms of tourism. Featuring international case studies and supported by up-to-date statistics, the text offers a concise yet comprehensive review of tourism geography and how geographers can interpret this important contemporary process. Written primarily as a student text, each chapter includes guidance for further study and summary bibliographies that form the basis for independent work.

Ahmed Ismail - Front Office
For Hotel Management courses, and internships, this text introduces concepts of organization, communication, ethics and policy within a hotel. The primary focus is the front office, housekeeping, reservations and night audit departments. An introduction of basic analyses, techniques and trends both in policy and technology are reviewed as they relate to management and the guest. The text gives students a "real world" understanding of the hotel industry balancing its past, present and future. This text portrays the nature and operation of hotels as they exist today. It reveals the inner workings of a hotel in a way that both promotes learning and interest for the students, preparing them for what to expect in the current and future hotel market. The Property Management System has dramatically changed hotel operations, therefore extensive time has been devoted to covering this technology. Additional chapters feature analysis of the physical makeup of hotels, yield management, and operational techniques. Performance measurements and analysis of what makes a truly successful hotel are discussed in detail. Yvette Reisinger - Frederic Dimanche - International Tourism
In recent years there has been a considerable interest in the cultural aspects of tourism such as the impacts of culture on tourism planning, development, management and marketing. However, the focus has been on material forms of culture such as arts, music, or crafts. The impacts of national culture on tourist behavior and travel decision-making have not been paid much attention. Only in the last two years have cross-cultural issues begun to generate significant interest among academics. An examination of cultural characteristics and differences is extremely important to the tourism industry because today’s tourism environment is becoming increasingly international. Information on the nature of the cultural differences between international tourists and locals is not readily available in tourism literature. The concept of culture is very complex and includes such abstract concepts as satisfaction, attitude and loyalty. International Tourism brings these concepts to the undergraduate student in tourism, as well as students in the related fields of marketing, management, international business, and cross-cultural communication. Designed as a textbook, it is organized and presented in an integrated and relevant way for the benefit of a worldwide audience.

Michael Higgins - Clarissa Smith - John Storey - The Cambridge Companion to Modern British Culture
British culture today is the product of a shifting combination of tradition and experimentation, national identity and regional and ethnic diversity. These distinctive tensions are expressed in a range of cultural arenas, such as art, sport, journalism, fashion, education, and race. This Companion addresses these and other major aspects of British culture, and offers a sophisticated understanding of what it means to study and think about the diverse cultural landscapes of contemporary Britain. Each contributor looks at the language through which culture is formed and expressed, the political and institutional trends that shape culture, and at the role of culture in daily life. This interesting and informative account of modern British culture embraces controversy and debate, and never loses sight of the fact that Britain and Britishness must always be understood in relation to the increasingly international context of globalisation.
John Rogers - Reading
Melis Ildikó - Szalay Krisztina - The Joy of Reading
A művek mellé választott színes illusztrációk jó alkalmat nyújtanak arra, hogy a verseket, novellákat más alkotások tükrében gondolják-értelmezzék tovább a könyv olvasói. A kötet végén mintatesztek segítik az olvasmányélmény rögzítését, a tanultak elmélyítését.
Cedric Cullingford - Tibor Szabó - British Culture: An Exercise in Understanding
Culture is, of course, as the British would say, the most lubricious of terms. It is not so much slippery and a word that can be used in a plethora of different contexts for an infinity of different reasons, as that ultimate definition of the self in a social context. It is a term to be played with but one of fundamental importance. We might be able to joke about the term in some of its manifestations, but it is also the key to understanding. Culture is both the embodiment of what people protect, and the means of communication.
Ismeretlen szerző - Critical Anthology for the Study of Modern Irish Literature
The collection entitled Critical Anthology for the Study of Modern Irish Literature is textbook that aims to assist the work of students and teachers of Irish literature courses at the English departments of Hungarian universities and teacher training colleges. It contains extracts from a selection of articles and books which were originally published by scholars from Ireland and other English-speaking countries and deal with modern Irish literature from the 18th century to the present, understanding "modern" in the broader sense. The inclusions represent a range of critical approaches and perpectives from the more traditional to the theoretical, therefore some of them concerning the same areas enter into fruitful dialogue with each other. Together they also represent the richness and diversity of the contemporary inquiry into modern Irish literature written in English. The anthology is divided into three parts: the first one focuses on aspects of the Irish cultural backround, the second one offers material on Irish literature in the colonial period and during the Literary Revival, and the third one includes extracts from critical texts that analyse literature written after independence to the present. Critical Anthology for the Study of Modern Irish Literature is the first textbook of its kind published in Hungary to make such a selection available. Its material was selected and edited by Mária Kurdi, who teaches in the Department of English Literatures and Cultures at the University of Pécs and has widely published on Irish Literature.
