A tíz fejezetre oszló könyv nem szabályos készségfejlesztő és lépésről lépésre haladó tankönyv, inkább olyan segédlet, amely jól kiegészíti a tanulást, ötleteket, további feladatokat ad az órai munka színesítésére. A könyvben levő szövegek és feladatok behelyettesíthetők más szövegekkel és gyakorlatokkal, színesíthetők további ötletekkel.
A szerző módszertani alap elve, hogy a tanár szerepe nem valamely elvont tudás, nyelvtani tényhalmaz közvetítése, hanem olyan készségek átadása, amelyek segítségével a diákok képesek lesznek használni a nyelvet az értelmes kommunikációhoz.
