Udvarhelyi Nándor - Magyar szentek temploma
A történelmi Árva vármegye északi részén, a Budapestről Krakkóba vezető főútvonal mentén található Oravka (Orawka) falu. A fatemplom 1650-56 között épült, majd többször is megújult. A 20. század elején alakították ki mai formáját. Belső falait, mennyezetét, berendezését színpompás, fára festett képek borítják. A 17. század közepén készült Keresztelő Szent János életét megörökítő tizennégy nagyalakú kép mellett számunkra különösen értékes a magyar szenteket ábrázoló 52 kép. Ezek a képek magyar szenteket, boldogokat, hitvallókat ábrázolnak, akik Magyarországon születtek vagy a magyarsághoz kötődtek, hosszabb-rövidebb időt eltöltve itt. Nincs még egy templom a Kárpát-medence területén, ahol a szentéletű magyarok ilyen nagyszámú festett képgalériája tárulna a látogató elé. A templomot a lengyelek is magyar emlékként tartják számon, s példaértékűen gondozzák, rendben tartják.

Conrad Anker - Bernadette McDonald - The Call of Everest
Gripping and sumptuous, this is the definitive book on the history, mystique, and science of Mount Everest, including how climate change is impacting the world's tallest mountain. It was the first American venture to successfully scale the legendary peak and the first successful climb up the hazardous West Ridge (a climb so difficult no one has yet repeated it). In 2012, adventurer Conrad Anker led a National Geographic/The North Face team up the mountain to enact a legacy climb. Environmental changes and overcrowding led to challenges and disappointments, but yet the mountain maintains its allure. Now, steely-eyed Anker leads a team of writers in a book designed to celebrate the world's most famous mountain, to look back over the years of climbing triumphs and tragedies, and to spotlight what has changed--and what remains eternal--on Mount Everest. Telltale signs of Everest's current state, never-before-published photography, and cutting-edge science expose the world's tallest peak--its ancient meaning, its ever-present challenges, and its future in a world of disappearing ice.

Amrita Sondhi - The Tastes of Ayurveda
Ayurveda, the five thousand-year-old healing tradition from India linked to the development of yoga, is based on the concept that one's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being comes from a number of sources, including a healthful diet based on one's individual constitution. In this vegetarian cookbook, Amrita Sondhi, author of The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook (now in its fourth printing), provides new twists on traditional Ayurvedic recipes that are also inspired by the growing popularity of whole grains (quinoa, spelt, and barley) and raw foods. The Ayurvedic diet is based on the concept of three "doshas": vata (air), pitta (fire), and kapha (earth). Each of us has a primary dosha that we can strive to maintain at a healthy balance, but which can cause problems if excessive. The book includes a questionnaire so readers can determine their own primary dosha and then look for recipes that will help them to maintain or reduce it for optimal health. Recipes include modern interpretations of Indian cuisine (spicy paneer zucchini kabobs and mango and coconut kulfi), and Ayurvedic spins on vegetarian fare (sprouted barley rainbow pilaf and raw zucchini hummus). The book also includes yoga and breathing exercises that one can easily do at home or at work, full-color recipe photos, and information on sprouting/fermenting techniques and backyard gardening. The Tastes of Ayurveda offers simple and delicious ways to achieve a more healthful and serene life. Amrita Sondhi is a yoga instructor, Ayurvedic cooking teacher, and the owner of Movement, a sustainable fiber clothing line.
