A mester és tanítványa éppen nagy buzgalommal végzi felelősségteljes munkáját, amikor a százféle nyavalyában szenvedő városi tanácsnok küldet értük. A súlyos nyavalyára Johann mester szerint a legjobb orvosság a mitridácium. A tanácsnok nem bízik Johann mester tudományában, ezért kiköti, hogy a mesternek és a tanítványnak is meg kell kóstolnia a gyógyszert. Johann mesteren erőt vesz a tüsszögés, ezért a fejére húzott lábas alól diktálja inasának a mitridácium alkotóelemeit, így aztán Mart a fecskefészek helyett mézet, a pirított tömjén helyett málnalét, a három gramm rozmárpor helyett fél font nektárt kever az orvosságba, amely olyan jól sikerül, hogy a tanácsnok egész családja megkóstolja. Csakhamar az egész város megismeri, s mind a mai napig a gyerekek kedvence a Martról elnevezett marcipán.
