Tom Stoppard - Drámák
Tom ​Stoppard a szó és a szellem virtuóza. Személyét és írásait már-már túl könnyű hatásos paradoxonokkal felcímkézni. Szabatosan fogalmazó fecsegő, bohócarcú gondolkodó, keserű tréfacsináló. Pályája kezdetétől következetes tojástáncot jár a műfajok és színházi kategóriák mezsgyéjén. Kritikusainak komoly fejfájást okoz, vajon a könnyű műfaj nehéztüzérségéhez, avagy a komoly művészet szórakoztatóipari gyorshadtestéhez sorolják inkább. Stoppard folyamatosan változik, írásaiban talán csak két dolog állandó. Az egyik a szavak, a nyelv mániákus imádata, a mesterség tisztelete. A másik, hogy a közönségét minduntalan meglepi, de mert az soha nem tudhatja, honnan várja a "támadást", újra és újra kíváncsi szívvel tér vissza, hogy a szerző próbára tehesse éberségét. A négy évtizedes pálya legjavát egybegyűjteni egyszerre szép és fájdalmas feladat. Az itt közölt drámák mindegyike önmagáért szól (remélhetőleg sokakhoz), egyiknek sincs szüksége védőbeszédre vagy magasztos dicséretre. Sok minden nem fér bele ugyanakkor egy kézbe illő válogatásba: jócskán akadnak még könnyed kis szösszenetek, komoly "lelkiismeret-darabok", érzelmes időutazások és bonyolult agytörők egyaránt, amelyek joggal követeltek volna itt helyet. Egy reményünk van csupán: ez a válogatás értük is szót emel, irántuk is fölkelti az érdeklődést.
