Stephen King (Richard Bachman) - A rendcsinálók
Tombol a nyár az Ohio állambeli kisvárosban. A Nyárfa utca lakói hétköznapi foglalatosságaikat végzik: David Carver az autóját mossa, Peter Jackson, miközben a feleségét várja haza a munkából, új találmányát csiszolgatja, Johnny Marinville, az író, a gitárját pengeti a teraszon. A gyerekek a pázsiton játszanak, kivéve Seth Garint, az autista kisfiút. Ő, szokása szerint, a tévét nézi nagynénje, Audrey Wyler házában, épp az egyik kedvenc sorozatát, a MotoZsarukat. A távolból mennydörgés hallik. Megérkeztek a rendcsinálók. A Nyárfa utcában elszabadul a pokol. Kik ezek a képregényből megelevenedett szörnyetegek?

Stephen King (Richard Bachman) - The Regulators
A publishing event of the first magnitude, the release of The Regulators is destined to create a firestorm of interest not only within the late Richard Bachman's cult audience but among fans of horror and supernatural suspense everywhere. Wenteorth, Ohio: just a small friendly town where the Carver children bicker over sweets and writer Johnny Marinville is about the only resident who minds his own business. And on Poplar Street it's just a normal summer's day with lawnmover's humming, Little League bats 'tinking', frisbiees flying and barbecues being readied. But for young Cary Ripton on his paper round it won't be a normal day at all... He notices something weird about the way Audrey Wyler is standing inside the glass door - and he's always thought there was something creepy about that nephew of hers, Poplar Street's best kept secret. But Cary doesn'tnotice the chrome red van idling up the hill. Soon it will begin to roll, the killing will begin, and the regulators will arrive in force. And by the time night falls on the block, the surviving residents will find themselves in a wasteland of devastation an desperation... A relentlessly exciting Stephen King-esque tour-de-force of terror, The Regulators manuscript was found among Bachman's effects by his widow on 1994.

Kurt Vonnegut - Deadeye Dick
Deadeye Dick is Vonnegut's funny, chillingly satirical look at the death of innocence. Amid a true Vonnegutian host of horrors–a double murder, a fatal dose of radioactivity, a decapitation, an annihilation of a city by a neutron bomb–Rudy Waltz, a.k.a. Deadeye Dick, takes us along on a zany search for absolution and happiness. Here is a tale of crime and punishment that makes us rethink what we believe...and who we say we are.

Celeste Ng - Wat ik nooit eerder heb gezegd
Juni, 1977.

Tiffany McDaniel - The Summer That Melted Everything
Fielding Bliss has never never forgotten the summer of 1984: the year a heatwave scorched the small town of Breathed, Ohio. The year he became friends with the devil. When local prosecutor Autopsy Bliss publishes an invitation to the devil to come to the country town of Breathed, Ohio, nobody quite expects that he will turn up. They especially don’t expect him to turn up as a tattered and bruised thirteen-year-old boy. Fielding, the son of Autopsy, finds the boy outside the courthouse and brings him home, and he is welcomed into the Bliss family. The Blisses believe the boy, who calls himself Sal, is a runaway from a nearby farm town. Then, as a series of strange incidents implicate Sal — and riled by the feverish heatwave baking the town from the inside out — there are some around town who start to believe that maybe Sal is exactly who he claims to be. But whether he’s a traumatised child or the devil incarnate, Sal is certainly one strange fruit: he talks in riddles, his uncanny knowledge and understanding reaches far outside the realm of a normal child — and ultimately his eerily affecting stories of Heaven, Hell, and earth will mesmerise and enflame the entire town. Devastatingly beautiful, The Summer That Melted Everything is a captivating story about community, redemption, and the dark places where evil really lies.

Toni Morrison - The Bluest Eye
The Bluest Eye, published in 1970, is the first novel written by Toni Morrison, winner of the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature. It is the story of eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove -- a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others -- who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning, and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

Celeste Ng - Amit sohase mondtam el
"Lydia halott.

S ami a legfontosabb: megvédte legnagyobb kincsüket, a kis tavat, ivóvizük forrását.

Neal Shusterman - Unwind
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child "unwound," whereby all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn't technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.

Mindy McGinnis - Not a Drop to Drink
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water. Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all. Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand. But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it…. With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

Jacqueline Woodson - Brown Girl Dreaming
National Book Award Winner Jacqueline Woodson, one of today's finest writers, tells the moving story of her childhood in mesmerizing verse. Raised in South Carolina and New York, Woodson always felt halfway home in each place. In vivid poems, she shares what it was like to grow up as an African American in the 1960s and 1970s, living with the remnants of Jim Crow and her growing awareness of the Civil Rights movement. Touching and powerful, each poem is both accessible and emotionally charged, each line a glimpse into a child’s soul as she searches for her place in the world. Woodson’s eloquent poetry also reflects the joy of finding her voice through writing stories, despite the fact that she struggled with reading as a child. Her love of stories inspired her and stayed with her, creating the first sparks of the gifted writer she was to become.

Celeste Ng - Everything I Never Told You
A haunting debut novel about a mixed-race family living in 1970s Ohio and the tragedy that will either be their undoing or their salvation. Lydia is dead. But they don’t know this yet . . . So begins the story of this exquisite debut novel, about a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee; their middle daughter, a girl who inherited her mother’s bright blue eyes and her father’s jet-black hair. Her parents are determined that Lydia will fulfill the dreams they were unable to pursue—in Marilyn’s case that her daughter become a doctor rather than a homemaker, in James’s case that Lydia be popular at school, a girl with a busy social life and the center of every party. When Lydia’s body is found in the local lake, the delicate balancing act that has been keeping the Lee family together tumbles into chaos, forcing them to confront the long-kept secrets that have been slowly pulling them apart. James, consumed by guilt, sets out on a reckless path that may destroy his marriage. Marilyn, devastated and vengeful, is determined to find a responsible party, no matter what the cost. Lydia’s older brother, Nathan, is certain that the neighborhood bad boy Jack is somehow involved. But it’s the youngest of the family—Hannah—who observes far more than anyone realizes and who may be the only one who knows the truth about what happened. A profoundly moving story of family, history, and the meaning of home, Everything I Never Told You is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, exploring the divisions between cultures and the rifts within a family, and uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another.

Robert Schulkers - The Gray Ghost
The Return of Stoner's Boy involves the return of a character previously written about in the Seckatary Hawkins series who is called the Gray Ghost and Stoner's Boy. The story takes place along the riverbanks of the Ohio River where a group of boys have formed a club. The book follows their escapades and adventures. A great read for young and older boys, as well as for girls. As a young girl, I read this book over and over, it being the favorite of my Seckatary Hawkins books.

Celeste Ng - Mici focuri pretutindeni

Celeste Ng - Little Fires Everywhere
In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.

Toni Morrison - Sehr blaue Augen
