P. C. Cast - Kristin Cast - Marked
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

John Irving - The Imaginary Girlfriend
From a novelist known for the complexity of his novels - they are also long - comes an autobiography of compelling simplicity; it is also short. Dedicated to the memory of two wrestling coaches and two writer friends, The Imaginary Girlfriend is a lucid portrait of the writers and wrestlers who played a mentor role in John Irving's development as a novelist, a wrestler and a wrestling coach. Moreover, this candid memoir portrays a father's dedication to his children: Irving coached his sons Colin and Brendan to New England championship titles - a championship that, as a competitor, he himself was denied. John Irving began writing and wrestling when he was fourteen. He competed as a wrestler for twenty years, he was certified as a referee for twenty-four and he coached the sport until he was forty-seven. His thirty-three years in wrestling are three times those he spent as a student and a teacher of Creative Writing; yet his concise autobiography details the interrelationship of the disciplines of writing and wrestling - from the days when Irving was a beginner at both pursuits until his fourth wrestling-related surgery at the age of fifty-three. The Imaginary Girlfriend is both a work of the utmost literary accomplishment and a paradigm for living

Michael Crummey - Galore
When a whale beaches itself on the shore of the remote coastal town of Paradise Deep, the last thing any of the townspeople expect to find inside it is a man, silent and reeking of fish, but remarkably alive. The discovery of this mysterious person, soon christened Judah, sets the town scrambling for answers as its most prominent citizens weigh in on whether he is man or beast, blessing or curse, miracle or demon. Though Judah is a shocking addition, the town of Paradise Deep is already full of unusual characters. King-me Sellers, self-appointed patriarch, has it in for an inscrutable woman known only as Devine’s Widow, with whom he has a decades-old feud. Her granddaughter, Mary Tryphena, is just a child when Judah washes ashore, but finds herself tied to him all her life in ways she never expects. Galore is the story of the saga that develops between these families, full of bitterness and love, spanning two centuries. With Paradise Deep, award-winning novelist Michael Crummey imagines a realm where the line between the everyday and the otherworldly is impossible to discern. Sprawling and intimate, stark and fantastical, Galore is a novel about the power of stories to shape and sustain us.

Beryl Bainbridge - According to Queeny

Taking her inspiration from eighteenth-century English history and literature, Bainbridge transforms meticulous research into a brilliantly imaginative portrayal of the complex relationship that the renowned literary giant Dr. Samuel Johnson enjoyed with his benefactress, Mrs. Thrale. Mrs. Thrale, however, also has a daughter. Her name is Queeney, and it is through her keen eye that the unusual alliance between the great man and his lesser-known but equally fascinating friend is explored.

Eventually, after he has settled into his new life, the CIA will leak his whereabouts to the Israelis, the Russians, the Chinese and the Saudis. Then the CIA will do what it does best: sit back and watch. The question is not whether Backman will survive - there's no chance of that. The question the CIA needs answered is, who will kill him?

Mintaválaszainkban a beszélt nyelvre jellemző kifejezésmódot próbáltuk szemléltetni.

Halász Zoltán - An uncommon guide to the Republic of City Park and Budapest
The "Republic of City Park" adds an extra tone to the map of Budapest. It has been founded by citizens of Pest to beautify and enrich this century-old park in our capital city. So I was delighted to accept the invitation to be copresident of this little "state". The founders of the "Republic of City Park" are consciously full of local pride. The leadership of the city is striving to be a worthy partner for them. Last year we restored Andrássy út, the avenue that linkts the city center and the Városliget, along with the 100-year-old Millenary Underground beneath it, the first subsurface railway to open on the European mainland. The Republic of City Park, in true republican spirit, has room side by side for resting places, playgrounds, an ice rink, a spa, a circus, a fun fair, historic buildings, museums and restaurants. I am sure that all visitors to its territory will find the kind of recreation to suit them. Dr. Gábor Demszky Mayor of Budapest

A mai olvasó nyilván csodálkozva hall e rég elvonult viharokról. Ma főként azokra a kiváló fordításokra figyel, amelyek aligha jöttek volna létre a kötet kínálta alkalom nélkül.

Now, in _The Edge of Reason,_ she discovers what it is like when you have the man of your dreams actually in your flat and he hasn't done the washing-up, not just the whole of this week, but ever.
