Anyta Sunday - Bird Meets Cage
He called himself Stardust, but one of my friends told me his name was Jean. I met him during the summer I worked at the cotton candy stand when the circus came through town. He was made of big dreams, sunshine, and raw sense of being that I’d never known existed before him. His eyes were black as mud, his lips were the same color as the cotton candy I sold, and his smile could put a solar eclipse to shame. He was everything I wasn’t. He was the first man I ever loved, and he left without me ever telling him that the way he looked at me broke my heart. I’m older now, and even if that circus never comes through town again, I’ll still call him Stardust. Sweet coming-of-age story / gay romance set in the circus.

A téma zenei megjelenésének elemzésével folytatódik a könyv Verditől Schönbergig.

Eric Scott Fischl - Dr. Potter's Medicine Show
The year is 1878. Dr Alexander Potter, disgraced Civil War surgeon, now snake-oil salesman, travels the Pacific Northwest with a disheartened company of strongmen, fortune-tellers, and musical whores. For a few unfortunate customers, however, the Sagwa offers something much, much worse.

Heather O'Neill - The Lonely Hearts Hotel
With echoes of The Night Circus, a spellbinding story about two gifted orphans in love with each other since they can remember whose childhood talents allow them to rewrite their future. The Lonely Hearts Hotel is a love story with the power of legend. An unparalleled tale of charismatic pianos, invisible dance partners, radicalized chorus girls, drug-addicted musicians, brooding clowns, and an underworld whose economy hinges on the price of a kiss. In a landscape like this, it takes great creative gifts to thwart one's origins. It might also take true love. Two babies are abandoned in a Montreal orphanage in the winter of 1910. Before long, their talents emerge: Pierrot is a piano prodigy; Rose lights up even the dreariest room with her dancing and comedy. As they travel around the city performing clown routines, the children fall in love with each other and dream up a plan for the most extraordinary and seductive circus show the world has ever seen. Separated as teenagers, sent off to work as servants during the Great Depression, both descend into the city's underworld, dabbling in sex, drugs and theft in order to survive. But when Rose and Pierrot finally reunite beneath the snowflakes after years of searching and desperate poverty the possibilities of their childhood dreams are renewed, and they'll go to extreme lengths to make them come true. Soon, Rose, Pierrot and their troupe of clowns and chorus girls have hit New York, commanding the stage as well as the alleys, and neither the theater nor the underworld will ever look the same. With her musical language and extravagantly realized world, Heather O'Neill enchants us with a novel so magical there is no escaping its spell.

Dr. Seuss - Ha lenne egy cirkuszom
Tadammm! Egy bestia! Foltos a szőre, és irdatlan irtózat fogai tőre. Mind, aki közel megy, menten kinyúvad, neve se semmi: a Balkörmű Dúvad. Dr. Seuss neve fogalom: ő a gyerekirodalom egyik legnépszerűbb alakja. Figurái elsőre gyakran furának tűnnek, ám egy-kettőre szívünkbe zárjuk őket. Dr. Seuss egyedülálló képi világa, humoros és zseniálisan egyszerű versei a legkisebbektől a már önállóan olvasókig mindenkit megszólítanak. A Kolibri Klasszikusok sorozatban végre magyarul is hozzáférhetőek Dr. Seuss hiánypótló könyvei, Szabó T. Anna hihetetlenül kreatív, mégis szöveghű fordításában.

Joanne Bischof - The Lady and the Lionheart
Two worlds collide when the circus comes to Victorian-era Virginia. Raised amid the fame and mystique of the Big Top, Charlie Lionheart holds the audience in the palm of his hand. But while his act captivates thousands, it’s away from the spotlight where his true heart lies. Here he humbly cares for his pride of lions as if they were his brothers, a skill of bravery and strength that has prepared him for his most challenging feat yet—freeing an orphaned infant from the dark bondage of a sideshow. A trade so costly, it requires his life in exchange for hers, leaving him tarnished by the price of that choice. As the circus tents are raised on the outskirts of Roanoke, nurse Ella Beckley arrives to tend to this Gypsy girl. All under the watchful eye of a guardian who not only bears a striking resemblance to the child, but who protects the baby with a love that wraps around Ella’s own tragic past, awakening a hope that goodness may yet reign. When their forbidden friendship deepens, Charlie dares to ask for her heart, bringing her behind the curtain of his secret world to reveal the sacrifice that gave hope to one little girl—boldly showing Ella that while her tattered faith is deeply scarred, the only marks that need be permanent are his own. _Just then a child in the row behind Ella cried out, “Look, Mama!”_ _Charlie, dressed in his center ring finery, strode into the arena, as strong and strapping as ever. Face powdered and painted with two jagged teardrops under his eyes, he walked with stoic authority, tall boots forging a fresh trail straight toward his audience. Ella didn’t know a single man could hush a packed house with no words, but…then there was Charlie Lionheart._

Ismeretlen szerző - The Circus
The greatest show on earth! The history and legacy of the circus During its heyday one hundred years ago, the American circus was the largest show-biz industry the world had ever seen. From the mid-1800s to mid-1900s, traveling American circuses performed for audiences of up to 14,000 per show, employed as many as 1,600 men and women, and crisscrossed the country on 20,000 miles of railroad in one season alone. The spectacle of death-defying daredevils, strapping super-heroes and scantily-clad starlets, fearless animal trainers, and startling freaks gripped the American imagination, outshining theater, vaudeville, comedy, and minstrel shows of its day, and ultimately paved the way for film and television to take root in the modern era. Long before the Beat generation made “on the road” expeditions popular, the circus personified the experience and offered many young Americans the dream of adventure, reinvention, and excitement. With 670 pages and nearly 900 color and black-and-white illustrations, this book brings to life the grit and glamour behind the circus phenomenon. Images include photographic gems by key early circus photographers such as Frederick Whitman Glasier and Edward Kelty, about 180 of the earliest color photographs ever taken of the circus from the 1940s and 1950s, 200 posters by the famous Strobridge lithographers, iconic circus photographs by Mathew Brady, Cornell Capa, Walker Evans, Weegee, Lisette Model, and little-known circus images by Stanley Kubrick and Charles and Ray Eames; also included are rare color and black-and-white lithographs and engravings from the 16th–19th centuries illustrating the worldwide roots of the circus, as well as original sideshow banners by legendary sideshow banner artists Nieman Eisman, Fred G. Johnson, and David “Snap” Wyatt. Organized into nine thematic chapters, the book sheds new light on circus history, from a behind-the-scenes look at life on the move, to the freedoms enjoyed by early female performers, to the innovative production skills that demanded as much know-how as a modern-day film production. For the first time ever, contemporary readers can now experience the legend of the American circus in full effect. The book’s broad subject matter, riveting images, and diverse visual material will appeal both to the circus aficionado and those who have never before been to circus. About the editor: Noel Daniel is a book editor based in Los Angeles. After graduating from Princeton University, she studied in Berlin on a Fulbright Scholarship. Crystal Ash - Curtain Call
I have my men. I have my powers. But are they enough to stop an evil we can’t see? Arjun’s world has been turned upside down, but he’s shoved his pain away to train me for our biggest, most dangerous shifter rescue we’ve ever done. He says we’re doomed to fail, but I can’t turn my back on the helpless. And even while he’s pushing me away, I can’t give up on us. If that wasn’t enough, my siblings need help and there’s no time left. We’re hundreds of miles away from each other, but I can’t abandon the shifters. No matter what I decide, the odds are stacked against me. I have to make an impossible choice: abandon those only I can save, or watch my worst fear come true-- losing my loved ones to a monster. Step right up. The ride ends here.

Crystal Ash - Jump through Fire
I need to save the tiger shifter before it’s too late-- but I have my own fires to jump through. Every burn on his paws, every poke and prod from his cruel masters, I feel as if it were my own. I also feel his anger and his thirst for blood. He’s even more of a predator than Hunter or Razvan. There’s a danger about this tiger shifter I’ve never experienced before. But the road leading to his rescue takes a detour to my past. I’ve thought about my siblings every day since I walked away from that place, and the monsters I left them with. They need to know I haven’t abandoned them, that I’m doing everything I can to get them out. Even if it means facing her. If it weren’t for the three amazing men in my life, I wouldn’t have a single shred of hope of facing either of these obstacles. I can only hope their love is enough to get me through it all. Step right up. The ride’s not over yet.

Crystal Ash - Tightrope
Do I save my siblings or keep all of the men I love? Hunter thought he lost his pack for good, but his brothers have reappeared. The pups are overjoyed at seeing their uncles again, and we’re all relieved to know some of his pack members survived. The only problem? His brothers hate humans. Which only adds to my confusion when I hear they have a shaman like me. The divide between Hunter and I only grows when I’m offered an opportunity I can’t refuse. It’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my life-- more than enough to support my siblings who still need me, and to start building a future with my lovers. On this rollercoaster, Connor and Raz are always at my side. Even Arjun is surprising me. The only questions is, can my heart accept that Hunter may have found happiness without me? Step right up, and witness the hardest choice I’ve ever had to make.

Genevieve Valentine - Mechanique
Come inside and take a seat, the show is about to begin... Outside any city still standing, the Mechanical Circus Tresaulti sets up its tents. Crowds pack the benches to gawk at the brass-and-copper troupe and their impossible feats: Ayar the Strong Man, the acrobatic Grimaldi Brothers, fearless Elena and her aerialists who perform on living trapezes. War is everywhere, but while the Circus is performing, the world is magic. That magic is no accident: Boss builds her circus from the bones out, molding a mechanical company that will survive the unforgiving landscape. But even a careful ringmaster can make mistakes. Two of Tresaulti's performers are entangled in a secret standoff that threatens to tear the circus apart just as the war lands on their doorstep. Now the Circus must fight a war on two fronts: one from the outside, and a more dangerous one from within.

Greer Macallister - The Magician's Lie
Water for Elephants meets The Night Circus in The Magician’s Lie, a debut novel in which the country’s most notorious female illusionist stands accused of her husband's murder --and she has only one night to convince a small-town policeman of her innocence. The Amazing Arden is the most famous female illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick of sawing a man in half on stage. One night in Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or an all-too-real murder? When Arden’s husband is found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear. But when Virgil happens upon the fleeing magician and takes her into custody, she has a very different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from powerless—and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding. Over the course of one eerie night, Virgil must decide whether to turn Arden in or set her free… and it will take all he has to see through the smoke and mirrors.

Crystal Ash - Freak Show
Who knew cages and freaks would set me free? Growing up in trailer trash hell, the carnival was my only happy memory as a child. I held onto the magic of that memory until I could finally escape. And like Alice down the rabbit hole, I entered a world beyond my wildest dreams. A world with a shiny, colorful exterior, but filled with rot and corruption underneath. But no matter what these people put me through, I can’t go back to my life before. The man with the biggest secret is the only one I can trust. He’s dangerous, but he’s safety to me. He’s broken, but he put me back together. I’ll keep his secret. My heart hopes he’ll keep me. But in a hall of mirrors, how do you know what’s real or an illusion? Every grueling night onstage is building up to a final show: The Wolf Man. Is he real or a hoax? Why do I feel such a pull to find out his truth? Care to join me on this wild ride? Step right up.

Juan Diaz Canales - Juanjo Guarnido - Blacksad - Amarillo

Crystal Ash - Smoke And Mirrors
The hardest part of being ringmistress? Juggling my feelings for three men. Connor, my stubborn protector always battling his demons. Hunter, the dashing wolf shifter who sends my heart into overdrive. And Razvan, the dragon I wish I could stop thinking about. What was supposed to be a fun, lighthearted date turns into a shocking discovery about myself. I wasn’t ready for this, and I’m not sure I’m up for the responsibility this discovery brings me. I’m so consumed by the shifter visions in my head, I don’t realize how much Connor is hurting. He’s walking down a dark path and this time, I’m not sure if even I can save him. Step right up and take a front row seat to my heart breaking.

Dévényi Ildikó - Moravetz Levente - Aranybohóc
A cirkuszművészet közel két évszázada ismerhető meg e könyvből: a Richter család 1821-ben Berlinben álló épületétől és működő cirkuszától egészen napjainkig, a világhírnevet szerzett Magyar Nemzeti Cirkusz életéig.

Módra Ildikó - Cinóber cirkusz
Cinóber cirkusznak nincs párja a világon.

Helen Aberson - Harold Pearl - Dumbo
